November workday and looking forward to Christmas

(From Maggie)  Thanks to all of ten of you who were able to come along last Saturday. Although the weather was a bit chilly at first – by noon we were all sitting cosily in the Donkey Barn enjoying some autumn sunshine and some very tasty soup (thank you Val!). We planted broad beans and garlic and tidied up the bean poles from summer while swapping recipes and gardening tips and generally catching up with the news.

I’m busy trying to get organised with preserving fruit, making jam and also getting some food cooked and frozen before Christmas. I don’t know about you but I hate the last minute rush and try to get a bit done beforehand. It doesn’t always work though. For years I made a Blackberry and Apple Pie in September as an alternative to Christmas Pud. The children were in their teens before by chance I caught the groan as I served it up …..

If you do have any ideas for cooking or preserving vegetables and would like to share them, do get in touch (email us or use the comments form below). In the meantime I’m taking this very early opportunity of wishing you a peaceful and happy Christmas and best wishes for 2012.
