Local food for local people

Thornbury CSA is a new scheme to provide locally grown food for people in the Thornbury area in South Gloucestershire, UK. It will be similar to a vegetable box scheme in that you can buy a share of mixed vegetables each week. Members of the scheme will meet the grower and have a say in how the food is grown and how the scheme is run.

The scheme has been set up by Sustainable Thornbury working with Thornbury Sheiling School. It will start with a weekly share of vegetables on Friday 16th July 2010 and every Thursday after that. The scheme is called Thornbury CSA (short for Community Supported Agriculture).

The vegetables will be certified biodynamically grown. Biodynamic roughly means organic plus a bit more, and uses no artificial pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers.

We are still looking for new members. If you are in the Thornbury area, and you want to buy good fresh biodynamic local food and support local growers then please read on and let us know you are interested. This is an exciting chance to be in at the beginning of a new sustainable project.

We have a printable leaflet (PDF 1.4MB) describing the scheme, including a membership form. There is a standing order form (PDF 4KB) to print out for paying.

Promoting the CSA

We will be appearing in three local food events over the coming weeks (September/October 2010) to raise the profile of the CSA, encourage membership and sell surplus veg. Volunteers are now needed to help at these events, please see the diary dates page for details. Please let us know if you are able to volunteer (even for an hour!).

Vegetable delivery

Building on the success of our vegetable collections we now also have a delivery system in place for any members who unable to collect their vegetables. Shares will be weighed out and delivered for a fee of £2 per week. Members simply need to provide their own bags or boxes. Please contact us to arrange a delivery.

Vegetable collection

We now have vegetable shares for members for collection from the Sheiling School. Collections are every Thursday from 4pm to 7pm. Please bring any bags and boxes you may need to carry the vegetables away.
